ARTIST BIO & ARTIST STATEMENT

Young-Sung Kim is a Korean artist based in South Korea. Through his paintings, Young Sung Kim visually critiques the level at which we place “value” on objects both commercially and ethically. Kim uses contrasting subject matter to illustrate the distinction between the living and the material. Kim thinks that the values of our society are intrinsically rooted in commerce. Kim analyzes and depicts the phenomenon cold-heartedly to express the desolation of modern society and the nihilism of people and seeks for the viewer to question the meaning and the “value” of living creatures in our modern society.  

Kim's works are currently showcasing at Waterfall Mansion Gallery in New York, and at Plus One Gallery in London. Kim’s paintings are part of numerous private collections and the permanent collections of the Seoul City Museum of Art, Art Retreat Museum, and many more.
